History of Taoyuan Prison
Established in July,1973,Taoyuan Detention Center was located at No.158, Yanshou Street, Taoyuan City. Since the juvenile defendants and inmates increased year after year,Taoyuan Juvenile Detention House was established and affiliated to Taoyuan Detention Center in April,1977.Taoyuan Prison was approved by Ministry of Justice to founded at the original place of Taoyuan Detention Center in July,1987.From then on,Taoyuan Prison works under one roof with Taoyuan Detention Center and Taoyuan Juvenile Detention House.

The prison holds male recidivists sentenced to less than seven years,male inmates serving a sentence less than seven years executed by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office,male defendants and teenagers dispatched by Taoyuan District Court and Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office.

Other significant dates
- Taoyuan 2nd branch prison of Taipei prison was affiliated.
- Taoyuan Juvenile Detention House moved to Longtan and was approved to become an independent institution.Longtan women's branch of Taoyuan prion was set up at the same time and located with Taoyuan Juvenile Detention House.
- To accommodate to the enforcement of Narcotics Endangerment Prevention Program and Compelled Discipline Enforcement Program ,Taoyuan Detention Center affiliated Detoxification Place and Taoyuan Prison affiliated Drug Abuser treatment center were established seperately.
- Taoyuan Juvenile Detention House moves to Taoyuan city.Taoyuan Prison affiliated Drug Abuser treatment center was dissolved and people receiving rehabilitation treatment has been trnasferred to Sinchu drug abuser treatment center.
- Taoyuan Prison is now under the newly formed the Agency of Corrections , Ministry of Justice according to the "Organization Act for the Agency of Corrections, Ministry of Justice" implemented on September 1, 2010.And the prison is renamed to "Taoyuan Prison, Agency of Corrections, Ministry of Justice". People under Rehabilitation's business had been transferred from Taoyuan Detention center to Sindian drug abuser treatment center.
